That time of the year again, change around at Baltic and a new exhibition is being ushered in, that means our rope access techs swing into action to swap out the West Wall banners at Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art to show case who is exhibiting this coming season.
We have been hanging banners via industrial rope access for over 20 years and it all began with Baltic.
The West wall always marks what is on at Baltic and we fix the banners to a steel rope frame which is fixed to both west facing core towers, the banners are generally hauled up the building from the ground using specialist rigging techniques and once in place the banners are laced to the frame using elastic bungee cords, this gives the banner more flexibility and tolerance during windy conditions.
Baltic also have an enormous frame available in both landscape and portrait which dominates the north wall facing the Pitcher & Piano on Newcastle’s famous Quayside. This space is generally saved for exclusive commercial advertising and exhibition sponsors.
