Domestic Solar Panel Cleaning Services
It is often thought that Solar Panels installed in the UK will ‘self-clean’ due to the amount of rainfall we receive. This may be true to a certain degree. Some panels, most probably, receive a hydrophobic treatment/coating during the manufacture process, this is a coating which prevents water sticking to the surface and tends to ‘bead off’ instead.
However hydrophobic coatings do not last forever and de-grade over time, generally after 3-5 years and then a new coating would be required. Rainfall alone cannot prevent a gradual build-up of contaminants such as dust, lichen, moss and guano.
How often should your solar panels be cleaned?
There is no set time frame, as it very much depends on the immediate environment surrounding the panels themselves. For most solar panels a clean every 2-3 years should be sufficient. However, in some cases where panels are in the proximity of woodland and trees, where issues could arise with nesting and roosting birds, lichen growth and tree sap, you may wish to consider a cleaning frequency of every 12-18 months.
How much can I expect to pay?
