Planes, Trains, Automobiles…..and Boats!

27th April 2026

Providing commercial cleaning services the length and breadth of the British Isles (and beyond) brings with it many challenges and tasks which are not immediately apparent to anyone who hasn't tried to do it.

Hotel accommodation for multiple squads which can change daily at various locations around the UK sometimes several times! Organising traffic management and navigating the bureaucracy of every town hall and local authority in the land to organise road closures, pavement permits, traffic management plans and strategies, noise pollution assessments...... The list goes on, and on! My point is as our business grew and grows to this day we reveal the layers of what it requires to successfully deliver large scale national window and commercial cleaning contracts.

It is partly in the title, we use and have used all of these modes of transport to deliver our expertise in window cleaning and industrial rope access to clients throughout the UK and at times The Republic of Ireland. During our History we have booked ferry crossings for multiple vans from Holyhead to Dublin, flights for young, home grown rope access techs who have never been away from Wallsend before complete with their kits….that was a learning curve! Thank goodness for the emergence of FedEx, a far better method of transporting rope access equipment securely and safely for overseas deployment.

Passport control and relevant documents are thankfully not required for the Isle of Wight Ferries which our ops frequently use to get to Travelodge Hotels on the island. Still, quite a process to go through to ensure we arrive to clean the windows on time and to the week between planned visits. Our admin teams must keep an eye on the weather and look for crossing cancellations both to and from the island. I am sure our window cleaners wouldn’t mind an extra day or two on the Isle of Wight (it is a beautiful place and well worth a visit) but I think our expectant customers on the mainland would have something to say about it.

Our rope access window cleaning technicians are often deployed on trains especially when we are going to multiple sites in London once there, the City’s tube system becomes invaluable. We generally coincide this as and when we must have vehicles in the city centre. We organise for industrial rope access equipment to be delivered to sites ahead of techs. The techs then efficiently commute throughout the capital with their kit bags daily from one central point on the tube Network. The Mayor of London would be proud of us!

We do still have to take our Reach and Wash systems into City Centres including London. There is a lot of additional administration involved in despatching vehicles around the UK in the 21st Century. More and more towns and cities are enforcing Congestion Charges and Clean Air Zones, navigating Geo Fences and the various penalties and payment methods for each authority can be rather confusing at times. Not too mention alarms for toll crossings from the Tyne Tunnel to The Dartford Crossing and arranging timely payments and the procurement of permits.

Our current modern fleet of Reach and Wash window cleaning systems is under 3 years old, and generally must be renewed every 5. Not just to maintain our smart professional image in the window cleaning world but to comply with Clean Air Zones making sure we run clean burning efficient vehicles ongoing. I envisage as EV technology improves our next fleet upgrade for vehicles operating localy will almost certainly be EV or at the least, a hybrid of some form. I would also suggest our national fleet will be fully EV in the next 7 years. Potentially converted rikshaw or liveried tuk tuks if this War in the Middle East continues! After all one of the secrets to successfully delivering window cleaning services is contingency planning, another skill which our often under appreciated back room staff have to learn.

Vehicle servicing, maintenance and repair schedules need planning to keep the fleet mobile and our window cleaning and rope access window cleaners delivering a consistently reliable and efficient window cleaning service. There is of course the times when roadside recovery and assistance is required, a true nightmare or it can be, and a cool head is required. Especially if one of the team gets a Puncture on the M25 during rush hour somewhere in Essex.

The content above is just a small snapshot, the tip of the iceberg as what is required to run national window cleaning and industrial rope access services successfully on behalf of clients. From our HQ firmly rooted in Northumberland we are a bridge to Scotland and keyed into the motorway network for access to the rest of the UK and beyond, especially now you know we have such a broad experience using Trains, Planes, Automobiles…..and BOATS.

Please do contact us for any of your window cleaning, industrial rope access, gutter cleaning and maintenance or any other of our services. Please take advantage of our knowledge and experience, we would love to hear from you and above all we would love to help.
