55* North Subway cleaning
13th August 2026
We received a call to attend the subway network beneath 55* North in Newcastle upon Tyne city centre, an area of Newcastle which is undergoing some pretty intense redevelopment works to breath new life and commerce into a once very much neglected part of Town.
The subways themselves built in the 1970s to connect numerous streets of the city cut off by the the development of Swan House BT Telephone exchange and the locally well known roundabout. Despite the repurposing of the building into Appartments during the early noughties the subways themselves have been blighted by graffiti.
The subways are due to be painted this week by people who work in the city centre who have volunteered their time as part of NE1’s Volunteer week. During this week employees of all city centre business's are encouraged to give some of their time to help improve the environment of selected areas of our city which lacks a bit of TLC.
This week is painting the subway system, we were asked by our client if we could get into the subways to give the walls a good wash down in preparation for painting this week. We deployed a couple of our Reach and Wash teams over the weekend to give the walls a good scrub down with a mild detergent and agitated and rinsed off with a waterfed pole and DI water.
As you will see from the pics the results are quite pleasing.
