Case Study - Window Cleaning

Travelodge approached us in 2006 to see if we could look at the feasibility of providing an efficient window cleaning schedule to all 400 hotels in their estate.

Very little comprehensive knowledge could be provided for any of their hotels relating to height, access issues, work positioning or fall arrest points as they had never had a formal window cleaning programme before having previously left this to the discretion of individual hotel managers.

We carried out a full site survey of all 400 hotels that involved taking digital images of every elevation of every hotel including photographic survey of all accessible roofs, taking note of all potential radio frequency / telecoms aerial transmitters. Full site specific risk assessments were performed complete with method statements and safe systems of work and catalogued all horizontal fall arrest wire systems, eye bolts and work positioning eye bolts including logging which were ‘in’ test and which required testing.

A full quotation and window cleaning programme was presented to Travelodge complete with information documented and as a result we have enjoyed and still enjoy a successful, close and happy relationship with Travelodge ever since. We continue to manage all their operational window cleaning, gutter cleaning, carpet cleaning, cladding cleaning, testing and inspection of all fall arrest and work positioning systems.
